2010 Noble Marine Enterprise Nationals at East Lothian YC - The final day
51 Enterprises on the water, surrounded by fantastic beaches and panoramic coast line.
Report by Paula Southworth
Congratulations to Nick Craig and James Stewart and our first Lady helm Jane Scutt.
NICK HAS REGAINED HIS CROWN AS ENTERPRISE NATIONAL CHAMPION 2010 claiming the Gold Trophy.
Jane Scutt, with crew Nick Scutt, was awarded The Mary Arnold Baker for her 1st Lady position which was closely contested by 2nd Ann Jackson and crew Alan Skeens by 1 point!
Last years Championship Winners, Tim Sadler and Richard Sault came 2nd in the Championship claiming the Slim Pickins Transom Trophy.
3rd Christian Birrell and Jonny McGovern,
4th Tony Woods and Charles Bowers claiming the Steve Nicholson Memorial Trophy,
5th Phil Kirk and Sue Beynon and 6th Jonathan Woodward and Clare Houghton.
Phil Kirk and Sue Beynon, Christian Birrell and Jonny McGovern, Tim Sadler and Salty winners of 5 of the 8 championship races
Race 8 was the final race sailed. Due to shifty and dropping wind conditions Race 9 was timed out. Wind strength was Force 2 -3, Race 8 was started but then had to be canned due to changing wind shifts. The race was restarted and completed in shifty wind, making the Race Officers task a difficult one on the last day of the Championship. This Championship was concluded with an excellent buffet at ELYC in a specially erected Marquee adjacent to the Club House, prepared by Andrias and the galley team, who had prepared excellent food throughout the week, much appreciated by competitors, families and support team. Nick Craig thanked ELYC Race Secretary Niall Campbell-Morrison, Race Officer and team, Commodore Hugh Marston and Commodore’s wife Phillipa Marston for presenting the prizes and last but by no means least the Bar Team. The efficient Beach master with his cadets had trolleys ready as the competitors came ashore, matching up tallies with sail numbers – welcomed assistance for competitors. This was an excellent, well organised event which the Enterprise Association would like to recommend to any class looking for a venue. Final thanks must go to our sponsors Noble Marine Insurance, whose continued support is very much appreciated by the Enterprise Association.

Nationals at East Lothian YC, North Berwick
Reasons to be there:
- Great racing venue, a club with a good pedigree of running many successful championships.
- Large boat park right next to the clubhouse.
- Easy/quick launching from sandy beach (no queues at a narrow slip!)
- Late starts (to match local wind conditions) will appeal both to those who like to party late and lie in, and to those who like to get up and do something different or just chill before the racing.
- Highland Games night; Ceilidh (Scottish Tribal Dancing); Fancy Dress – Scottish theme
- North Berwick is a very attractive seaside town right next to the clubhouse, harbour and beach.
- Local attractions include: sandy beach, National Seabird centre, trips round the Bass Rock, so plenty for the family to enjoy.
- Golf course within walking distance – a quick round before the first race, or a couple of rounds and a leisurely lunch on the lay day?
- Edinburgh, with all its attractions and nightlife is only 30 minutes away by train, trains run late, and early, and cost around a fiver a trip.
- Edinburgh Festival will be under way by Saturday 7 August so why not take some extra holiday and enjoy some of the events?
- You could even get a preview of the venue at the East Lothian open regatta on 5/6 June, the Scottish Ents will be there to welcome you.

2010 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP
NOTICE OF RACE
The 2010 Enterprise National Championship will be held under the burgee of East Lothian Y.C. North Berwick, 31 July to 6 August. The Organising Authority of the event will be the joint Race Committees of East Lothian Yacht Club and the Enterprise Association.
The event will be governed by the current Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS), the International Enterprise Class Rules, the Sailing Instructions and any amendments thereto.
Competitors must prove current membership of a National Association and must wear an approved buoyancy aid at all times whilst racing.
A boat is entirely responsible for her own safety, whether afloat or ashore, and nothing, whether in the Notice of Race or Sailing Instructions or anywhere else, reduces this responsibility. It is for the boat to decide whether she is fit to sail in the conditions in which she will find herself. By launching or going to sea, the boat confirms that she is fit for those conditions and her crew is competent to sail and compete in them. The boat is required to hold adequate insurance and in particular to hold insurance against third-party claims in the sum of at least £3,000,000. Nothing done by the organisers can reduce the responsibility of the boat nor will it make the organisers responsible for any loss, damage, death or personal injury, however it may have occurred, as a result of the boat taking part in the racing. The organisers encompass everyone helping to run the race and the event, and include the organising authority, the race committee, the race officer, patrol boats and Beach Masters. The provision of patrol boats does not relieve the boat of her responsibilities. The fact that the race committee conducts inspections of a boat does not reduce the responsibilities of the boat set out in this paragraph.
Entry fees will be specified on the Entry Form.
Registration will take place in the East Lothian Yacht Club from 1000 to 1700 hrs on Saturday and 09.30 hrs to the start of the first points race on Sunday.
Scrutineering will take place from 1000 to 1700 hrs on Saturday 31 July.
Please arrive early enough for that to be completed on that day.
A valid Enterprise Measurement Certificate must be available for inspection at Registration and Scrutineering, both of which must be completed before the boat is eligible to compete in the event. The Organising Authority reserve the right to carry out safety and measurement checks at any time at their discretion.

The Championship will comprise a minimum of 3 races. If 6 or more races are completed, one result shall be discarded.
