Noble Marine Masters Championship

Martin Honnor and Chris Blundell lead the fleet on the run across the lake
Report
Report Paula Southworth, Pictures Janice Bottomley.

A very competitive fleet of Enterprise Masters attended this venue.  Competitors were faced with shifting North Westerly 3 gusting 4 giving the Race Officer a ‘tricky’ task to set a course. The Practice Race was sailed in a 2 – 3 variable and it was crucial for competitors to get the pin end.  It was bright, sunny and warm, sadly this did not continue through the Championship. Race 1 was shock treatment for Masters as the temperature dropped and the wind increased dramatically. Race 2 sailed on Olympic courses, unfortunately after the first lap in the 2nd race the wind changed to make all legs exciting, screaming reaches!! Sunday started again in sunshine but before the sailors took to the water, the clouds formed and the rain started to fall – this continued together with a Force 3 - 4 – although damp it was possible for the Race Team to set a more positive course for Races 3 and 4 and capsizes were not an issue in these races. This 2 day event was supported by an excellent social event – The Masters Dinner (Dress Code Ties!). At the Prize Giving Northampton SC were thanked for excellent hospitality provided by The Galley Team headed by Elaine, the Bar staff Team by Tom and Chris with his Race Team. Special Prizes awarded by The Enterprise Association were 1st Lady Helm & 1st Lady Helm’s Crew 22702            Jane Scutt/Nick Scutt, Middle Nene SC. 1st Lady Crew & 1st Lady Crew’s Helm 22439 Catriona Bevan/Phil Bevan, Grafham Water SC. 1st Husband & Wife  22439 Phil Bevan/Catriona Bevan, Grafham Water SC. 1st Both over 40 22439 Phil Bevan/Catriona Bevan, Grafham Water SC. 1st Ton-up Helm/1st Ton-up Crew 23008 Barry Moss/Alan Skeens, Shustoke SC. 1st Ken Bird Trophy Helm 50+ 22879 Pete Bennett/Alicia Bennett, Salcombe YC. 1st Veteran Helm 60+ 19876 Alan Johnson/Matt Johnson , SCYC.
